  • George Hardin, Portland’s first African-American police officer, joined the force in 1894. He was born in Aurora, Illinois, and was a patrolman on the east side and was the patrol wagon driver until July 1895 when he, a captain and ten officers were let go for budget reasons.  #BlackHistoryMonth2018
