Ensuring school safety is our highest priority. Our main mission is to provide a school environment that is free of crime, the fear of crime, and intimidation and disorder, so that school staff and students can achieve their education goals without distraction. The School Resource Officer (SRO) works closely with school staff, students and parents and are included in every major discussion related to school safety and disorder. The primary activities of the SRO are problem solving, education, mentorship, and crime prevention
Each SRO is selected from a competitive panel interview process, generally consisting of a school administration official, a student, a non-sworn civilian, and two sworn members. The qualities we look for are largely focused on demonstrated understanding and ability to build positive relationships, as well as the ability to navigate a complex system of supports and partnerships to prevent the unnecessary criminalization of youth behaviors when possible.
In 2017/18 each SRO attended national certification courses by the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO). It was also awarded the Model Agency of the Year Award by NASRO.
We encourage you to get to know your SRO, ask questions and talk with the officer about what is happening in and around your schools.
