Active Shooter Response Training

Provided by the Portland Police Bureau, Central Precinct Neighborhood Response Team

Active shooter events have become a harsh reality on both a local and national level. Although police agencies are continually trained to combat active shooter events, civilians can also benefit from classroom training.

To that end, the Portland Police Bureau Training Division created an informative presentation intended for schools, businesses, religious institutions, and public locations where the potential for an active shooter event may exist.

Based on a train-the-trainer concept, Central Precinct's Neighborhood Response Team offers this free training for managers, directors, safety coordinators, and employees interested in learning more about how to prepare for and survive in an active shooter event. The training covers the following topics:

  • Introduction of the term "active shooter," what it really means, and how it may affect citizens living and working in Portland.
  • Summary of how to create a basic plan for civilian active shooter response, things to consider, and suggested policies for training other employees or staff members.
  • Comprehensive explanation of Run! Hide! Fight! and how it can maximize chances of survival during an active shooter event.
  • How to interact with first-responders during and after the event to help contribute to police and medical effectiveness.

This training lasts three hours, seats 50 people, and is presented by members of the Portland Police Bureau, Central Precinct, Neighborhood Response Team. We ask you bring a pen, paper, and an interest in learning more about this topic. The training is located downtown at:
