On the afternoon of July 19, 1997, a man searching for bottles in the 600 block of NE Everett made a grisly discovery: a body. Seeing the body, the man left the area, found a police officer and returned to the location. Medical personnel were called but said the subject deceased. Homicide detectives then took over.
An autopsy was performed and the cause of death was determined to be multiple stab wounds. The victim was determined to be Lois Marilee Luttrell. Ms Luttrell was a 39-year-old white female, 5’1” tall weighing approximately 120 lbs. She had worked for years in the shipyards until being injured in an on-the-job accident. Following that accident, her life spiraled downward leading to a high-risk life style. Friends described her as an alcoholic and someone who dabbled in drugs. She was also a care giver for the disabled and pensioners who would take care of their housekeeping needs in exchange for room and board.
Ms Luttrell was last seen alive at approximately 6 p.m. on July 18, 1997 near SE 7th and Ankenny. She was in the company of a Hispanic male. A sketch of this Hispanic male is available. Friends of Ms Luttrell told police that she had no known enemies. Ms Luttrell’s family miss her and need to know why she was killed.
