Case #95-113791

On November 14, 1995, at approximately 8:45 pm, 24-year-old Brian Todd Mitchell, parked his vehicle, a black 1986 Ford Thunderbird, across the street from his residence in the 4300 block of NE Hazelfern Pl.  Mr. Mitchell was returning to his residence after renting some videos.  Mr. Mitchell’s roommates and neighbors heard numerous gun shots and looked outside to see that Mr. Mitchell was on the ground near his vehicle.  When people approached to help, they could see that Mr. Mitchell had been shot in the head and leg.

Mr. Mitchell’s family has said he was a good kid, superb athlete, and musically gifted.  He was employed at the Oregonian in the shipping department.  Investigators determined that Mr. Mitchell was not a gang member and was not involved in any criminal activity.

A neighbor saw a mid 80’s Toyota or K-car type vehicle leave the area shortly after hearing the gunshots.  Another neighbor saw a VW Rabbit-type vehicle leaving the area after hearing the gun shots.  Investigators are uncertain if these vehicle were involved in the shooting of Brian Mitchell.  The shooter may have been in a vehicle or on foot.
