Lena Malmberg was an 86-year-old white woman who resided on the 2900 block of SE 20th Avenue. On July 10, 1982, her daughter had not been able to reach her by phone so she asked a neighbor to check on her. When the neighbor went to the house early in the afternoon, she noticed the front door was damaged and the front window was broken. Concern that entry was made into the house, the neighbor called police.
When police entered the residence, they found Lena Malmberg deceased in her bedroom. The autopsy revealed that the cause of death was traumatic asphyxiation.
Lena Malmberg lived alone and used a walker at times. She had no reported known problems with anyone. She was last heard from the night before at approximately 7:00 pm.
