Community Policing Spotlight: May 19, 2017

Student Police Academy

The Youth Services Division conducted a Student Academy at David Douglas High School, with 52 seniors rotating through interactive classroom formats that included: impaired driving, crime scene investigation and use of force scenarios. Students enjoyed a lunch provided courtesy of YSD and engaged in thoughtful dialogue with their police officers.

Muslim Educational Trust Dinner

Chief Marshman and several Bureau members attended a community event at the Muslim Educational Trust. Several speakers and presentations talked about the great relationship building which has been occurring within the larger Portland metro area with all faiths. This was a great opportunity for the Police Bureau to attend and show our continued investment in building relationships and trust within the Muslim and other religious communities.

Cache With A Cop
Fifty community members attended PPB’s "Cache With A Cop" geocaching event at the North Precinct Community Room on May 13, 2017. Afterwards, several attendees searched for a few geocaches near the PCC Cascade Campus with an Officer.   

Doernbecher's Making Miracles Parade
Several members from the Traffic Division assisted with the Doernbecher Kids Making Miracles Candlelight Parade. This annual event hosts about 450 youth who have raised funds for Doernbecher Hospital and conduct a short parade under the dusk evening and light a large candle upon arrival at the children's hospital in a symbol of hope for the sick children.

Police Bureau team wins basketball tournament
Central Precinct officers were invited to participate in a basketball tournament involving several businesses from the Downtown area. Officers competed against five other teams in a winner take all tournament. The Police Bureau team donated the $1200 winnings to Doernbecher Children's hospital.
