Extra Walking Beats after Demonstration
North Precinct: September 10, 2017
Officers and Sergeants patrolled on foot in the Mississippi, Lloyd and Alberta Districts. The primary focus of the extra patrols were to answer questions the public may have had in reference to the demonstrations that occurred earlier in the day in downtown. As always, the foot patrols were met with gracious community members who enjoyed interacting with their Portland Police.
Officers Assist with Eid al-Adha Celebration
Central Precinct: September 5, 2017
Three Officers and one Sergeant from Central Precinct were requested by organizers of the Eid al-Adha celebration at Oaks Park today. Eid al-Adha is the holiday marking the end of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca (the Hajj). Officers interacted with nearly 2000 community members over the course of the evening, passing out stickers, taking pictures, and sampling traditional dishes. Officers were repeatedly thanked by the organizers and the community for supporting the event.
Community engagement - Annual Mahrajan Festival
Central Precinct: September 2, 2017
Officers from Central Precinct were invited to the 7th Annual Arab American Mahrajan (festival) at Oaks Park. The officers assigned interacted with the children and adults, as well as added to the festival's security presence. Several hundred people attended. The officers handed out stickers, etc.
