Event Types > Training & Education
78 Seats Available
Cost is free and open to all interested in the Portland Police Officer position. Registration does not obligate you to attend both events. Registration provides potential applicants the ability to attend any portion of the day that will address their specific questions or needs for the Portland Police Officer application process.
Photo identification is required.
The workshop will be 9:00am – 12:00pm to provide an overview of the Portland Police Bureau and an in-depth explanation of the application process and background investigation. Background investigators will also be available to review individual applicants’ Personal History Statements. Dress for the workshop is casual.
The Physical Ability Test (PAT) will be 8:00am – 1:00pm. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST ARRIVE BY 12:00PM.
The PAT assesses an applicant’s physical strength, muscular endurance, coordination, and agility by performing basic physical tasks that police officers will use throughout the normal performance of their duties. The physical abilities test is strenuous. The PAT will be explained and demonstrated to you before you start the test. A video of the PAT can be found at www.joinportlandpolice.com/videos
The PAT is conducted in a secure training area. All persons entering the training area will be subject to a search for weapons or contraband. It is suggested to dress in athletic wear and bring water.
Each applicant must sign a waiver form releasing liability prior to taking the PAT. If you’ve had surgery or a serious illness within the previous six months, are on medication, or have an ongoing medical condition, it is recommended you consult your physician before attempting the PAT. Any potential medical concerns should be discussed with a qualified medical professional, at the applicant’s own expense, before attempting the PAT.
Portland Police Bureau members will be available throughout the day to provide information and answer individual questions about the Portland Police Bureau and a career in law enforcement.
