Community Policing Spotlight July 2018

Central Precinct 
Hillside Parade and National Night Out
Led the parade of community members from the Hillside community member (kids, adults, elderly, and pets) walking and riding bikes.  Also hosted ice cream socials and participated in numerous National Night Out events.

Special Olympics Torch Run
Various Officers 
Law Enforcement agencies in Multnomah County ran with the Special Olympics torch from PPB East Precinct to Gresham PD Rockwood station with Oregon Special Olympics athletes

Dodgeball Event
Various Officers 
Officers participated in a dodgeball event at Holy Redeemer. Everyone had a great time.

Feeding the Dragon
Chief’s Office
Assistant Chief Ryan Lee was given the honor of “feeding the dragon” at the end of the traditional lion and dragon dance performance at the opening of the community event.

Cully and Dawson Park
Tactical Operations Division
In the evening, members of Gang Enforcement Team walked through the new Cully Park and Dawson Park. Community members had complained about gang members congregating at the park recently. Officers met 50 community members, including around 35 youths under the age of 13. Many of those contacted were kids from Somali or other African country immigrants. Officers were told by several adults and kids that they appreciated them being there and invited them back.

Woodstock Block Party
East Precinct
Officers stopped by a block party in the Woodstock neighborhood. Officers chatted with kids and answered neighbors’ questions. Neighbors thanked officers and said they supported PPB.

Community Events
K9 Unit
K9 Bora participated along with 13 other K9 teams from around the state in 5 different events. After the events, the community was invited down onto the field to meet the K9 teams.

NICU Reunion at Randall Children’s Hospital

Officers participated in this annual event.

Autism Society of Oregon
North Precinct
Portland Police Bureau hosted a Q&A panel with the Autism Society of Oregon to answer questions, educate, and hear concerns from families impacted by autism.

Slavic Festival
East Precinct
Officers walked through the event speaking with vendors and community members, handing out stickers and having many conversations.

Paw Patrol
K9 Unit
"Paw Patrol" community event put on by Lloyd Center Mall had more than 2,500 people, mostly pre-school age kids and their families. K9 Bora got to meet "Paw Patrol" lead characters Chase and Marshall, along with hundreds of community members.

10th annual Portland women’s basketball 3x3 tournament

Police (Super Troopers) vs Fire (Hosers): Police won 9-8!

Camp Rosenbaum
Various Officers
Portland Police Bureau’s partnership with Home Forward and Portland Air National Guard sponsors an overnight camp for youth in government subsidized housing (177 kids).  Camp Rosenbaum focus on developing values and characteristics of good community members as well as building relationships with police officers.
