Video Update 2 - Transcript

Transcript:

Hello. I’m Lieutenant Tina Jones, the public information officer for the Portland Police Bureau. This is the second of several briefings for Saturday, August 17th, 2019.

  • Portland police, other local law enforcement agencies, and partners have prepared for weeks for today’s demonstrations.
  • Our number one priority is the safety of everyone
  • Officers in our sound truck continue to advise crowds on and around Naito Parkway that people need to get out of the street – for everyone’s safety.
  • Police have seized some weapons from demonstrators including bear spray, shields, and poles; and continue to be vigilant.
  • If anyone sees anything suspicious or anyone committing a crime, call 9-1-1.
  • Portland Police and our partners are here for safety - while facilitating everyone's 1st Amendment right to gather and speak.
  • Police are actively working to keep demonstrators separated – again, for the safety of all.
  • Please note that today's events continue to develop, and this update is based on the best information we have at this time. We will be back with another briefing soon. In the meantime, be sure to follow our twitter feed @PortlandPolice. Our official hashtag is #ppbalert
