On Monday, December 6, 2021, shortly before 10 a.m., Portland Police responded to I-5 in the area of Rosa Parks Way regarding an armed suspect involved in multiple carjackings and violent incidents. During the last carjacking, a woman and her family ran from the car and it was first reported she was shot. It was later determined her injury was not from a bullet.
During the course of contacting the suspect, Officer John Hughes, a 17-year veteran of the Portland Police Bureau deployed his weapon, killing the suspect was later identified by the Oregon State Medical Examiner as Brandon L. Keck.
