Suspect Faces Attempted Murder Charges for April 2020 Shooting Case (Photo)

A suspect is facing attempted murder charges after the Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) made an arrest in a shooting case from 13 months ago in the Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood.


On Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at 10:30a.m., ECST members arrested Deangelo D. Clayton, Jr., 23, of Portland near North Olin Avenue and North Oberlin Street. They seized a pistol (photo) as evidence. He was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and Assault in the First Degree.


"This arrest coming more than a year later shows the diligence and perseverance that our ECST detectives in pursuing justice for the victims of gun violence," said Chief Chuck Lovell. "This is also one of four significant ECST arrests made this week related to gun crime, and I'm grateful to our professional investigators for all their hard work."

The Gun Violence Reduction Team (GVRT) continues to investigate the shooting that happened in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood.

After undergoing surgery, the adult male victim is expected to recover. He was seriously wounded after being shot multiple times.

Detectives have learned that he was in a parking lot when a suspect in a vehicle drove up and shot him. A business was also struck by gunfire (photos), but no one else was injured.

GVRT is continuing to investigate the identity of the suspect. No description is available.

On Friday, April 10, 2020 at 3:56 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to the area of Southeast 123rd Avenue and Southeast Powell Boulevard on reports that shots were fired in the area. When officers arrived they located an adult male victim with a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital by ambulance. The victim's medical status is unknown at this time.

Southeast Powell Boulevard is closed in both directions from Southeast 122nd Avenue to Southeast 125th Avenue.

Officers have secured the crime scene and the Gun Violence Reduction Team is responding to assist in the investigation.

The PIO is not responding to the scene.

An update will be provided if appropriate for the investigation.
