In the early morning hours of June 29, 2021 Portland Police officers from Central Precinct responded to a shooting incident at the Stephens Creek Crossing Apartments in Southwest Portland in which nearly 30 rounds were fired at persons, and indiscriminately into occupied apartments. Nobody was hit by the gunfire.
The suspect, 32-year-old Luke Stolarzyk, was injured when witnesses disarmed and detained him until police arrived. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital. Officers processed the scene, interviewed witnesses, and recovered several firearms. Since the suspect was hospitalized, officers cited him for multiple counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Criminal Mischief and Discharging a Firearm in the City.
The Central Precinct Neighborhood Response Team (NRT) began follow up on the incident the same day, followed leads and developed more detailed information. Based on the NRT investigation an arrest warrant was issued for Attempted Murder, and related charges. On July 5, 2021, officers took Stolarzyk into custody for the warrant when he was finally released from the hospital, and booked him into the Multnomah County jail.
Central Precinct NRT officers work on problem solving through coordination of community and city resources to solve chronic problems in order to decrease crime and increase neighborhood vitality. They assist patrol, engage with the community, conduct directed patrol and follow up investigations.
