The man killed in a crash on I-84 on June 29, 2024 has been identified as John M. Boyd, 44, of Portland. His family has been notified of his death.
The driver of the vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes has been identified as 34-year-old Heather Greig. A Multnomah County Grand Jury indicted Greig on the following charges: Manslaughter in the First Degree, DUII, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and Reckless Driving.

On Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 1:32 a.m., officers from the East Precinct responded to reports of a crash involving two vehicles on westbound I-84 at Northeast 162 Avenue. Officers arrived to find a head-on collision and both drivers injured. The driver of the westbound vehicle was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries were he later died. The driver of the vehicle that was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes was also transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries.
The Portland Police Bureau Major Crash Team has responded to the scene to investigate. During the investigation, all lanes of westbound I-84 will be closed between Northeast 181st Avenue and I-205.
