UPDATE: Suspect Arrested in Connection to January 8 Robbery (Photo)

The United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force and Multnomah County Sheriff's office arrested 24-year-old Jerry K. Anderson on January 10, 2018, at the Shoreline Apartments, located at 123 West Burnside Street.

This investigation began on Monday, January 8, 2018 after officers responded to the report of a robbery at the Checkers Market, located at 9122 Southeast Flavel Street. During the robbery the suspect demanded money, obtained an undisclosed amount of cash, fired a handgun then left the location. No one was injured during the robbery and shooting.

Based on information gathered by officers and criminalists with the Forensic Evidence Division during the investigation, detectives believed Anderson was the suspect who robbed the Checkers Market. Detectives with the Portland Police Bureau Detective Division's Robbery Detail requested and received a warrant for the arrest of Anderson on January 10, 2018. Anderson was taken into custody without incident that same day. Robbery Detail detectives served a search warrant on his residence after Anderson was taken into custody.

Anderson was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Robbery in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and a parole violation for a previous conviction of Burglary in the First Degree.

On Monday, January 8, 2018, at 6:37 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to the report of an armed robbery with gunfire at the Checkers Market, located at 9122 Southeast Flavel Street.

Officers arrived in the area and spoke to an employee who was in the store at the time of the robbery. Officers learned the suspect entered the store and demanded money while displaying a handgun. Based on information learned during the investigation, the suspect fired his gun during the robbery. After firing his gun, the suspect left the store.

The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 25-years-old, 5'7" to 5'8" tall, with a medium to stocky build, armed with a handgun.

Officers checked the area but did not locate anyone matching the suspect's description.

There are no surveillance images available for public release at this time.

Criminalists with the Forensic Evidence Division are responding to assist with this robbery investigation.
