The pedestrian killed on Wednesday evening has been identified as 20-year-old Logan Jeffrey Dunlap of Northeast Portland.

The involved driver, 33-year-old Nathaniel Stuart Smith of Southeast Portland, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Due to the ongoing investigation, the driver has not been arrested or issued any citations. Once the investigation is complete, the case will be presented to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office for review and determination if any charges should be filed.

This was the eighth traffic fatality in the City of Portland in 2018.



On Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at 9:12 p.m., North Precinct officers responded to the report that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in the 12200 block of northeast Sandy Boulevard.

Officers and emergency medical personnel arrived on scene and located an adult male on the ground at the crash scene. The male pedestrian suffered from serious injuries as a result of the crash. Medical personnel provided medical aid, but determined the pedestrian was deceased.

Based on preliminary information, officers believe the pedestrian crossed Northeast Sandy Boulevard when he was struck by a driver in a Subaru Legacy that traveled westbound on Southeast Sandy Boulevard. The adult male driver of the Subaru Legacy remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division's Major Crash Team is responding and will continue the investigation. Criminalists with the Forensic Evidence Division are also responding to assist with this investigation.

During this crash investigation Northeast Sandy Boulevard will be closed to vehicle traffic between Northeast 122nd Avenue and Northeast 125th Avenue.

This investigation is ongoing. No additional information is expected to be provided regarding this crash this evening.
