UPDATE: PSU Police Department Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation Continues

Based on information gathered in the investigation at this time, Portland Police Bureau Detectives believe Portland State University (PSU) Police Department Officers were in the area of Southwest 6th Avenue and Southwest College street when they became aware of a disturbance near the Cheerful Tortoise, located at 1939 Southwest 6th Avenue.

PSU Police Department Officers contacted the people believed to be involved in the disturbance. Shortly after contacting the suspects PSU Police Officers broadcast that shots had been fired.

Central Precinct officers and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene. Responding emergency medical responders determined the subject was deceased.

Members of the Portland Police Bureau Homicide Detail, Forensic Evidence Division, Multnomah County District Attorney's Office, Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office, and the Portland State University Police Department are continuing this shooting investigation. 

The investigation is in its early stages and additional information will be released as the investigation continues and more information is learned. 

The subject and the involved officers' identities will be released as the investigation continues.

Detectives continue to interview witnesses and others. Detectives will review cell phone and surveillance videos of the incident. Anyone with video of this incident is asked to contact Portland Police Bureau Detectives.

Following the Grand Jury, the Bureau will release additional information as appropriate.

The Portland Police Bureau Public Information Officer (PIO) is responding to the scene of an officer-involved shooting investigation involving Portland State University Police (PSU) Department Officers and a subject near Southwest Broadway and Southwest College Street.

On Friday, June 29, 2018, at 1:30 a.m., Central Precinct officers responded to the report of an officer-involved shooting involving PSU Police Department Officers and a subject. Officers arrived and contacted PSU Police and located a subject on the ground. Emergency medical personnel arrived to render aid to the subject, but determined the subject was deceased. Based on preliminary information, responding officers do not believe any officers or other community members were injured during this incident. 

Members with the Portland Police Bureau Detective Division's Homicide Detail are responding to lead this investigation.

During this investigation the following roadways will remain closed to vehicle, pedestrian, bicycle and TriMet traffic:
* Southwest Broadway between Southwest Harrison Street and Southwest Jackson Street;
* Southwest 6th Avenue between Southwest Harrison Street and Interstate 405; and
* Southwest College Street between Southwest 5th Avenue and Southwest Broadway
