During the evening hours of Sunday, September 9, 2018, members of the Portland Police Bureau's North Precinct partnered with officers from the Traffic Division, to conduct a mission focused on traffic enforcement related to speed racing. This Sunday evening's mission took place primarily on Marine Drive and Northeast Airport Way from Kelley Point Park to the eastern boundary of the City of Portland.
Officers focused on dangerous driving behaviors in areas reported by community members to be frequented by speed racers. The officers were encouraged to share information about the Vision Zero program during these contacts. As always, officers were allowed the discretion to issue citations, warnings or classes.
During this traffic safety mission, 24 citations were issued along with 8 written warnings. Officers also arrested 25-year-old Jamee L. Bird upon locating a warrant for her arrest. Bird was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Possession of Heroin Felony, Delivery of Heroin, Possession of Methamphetamine, Delivery of Methamphetamine, and a warrant for a probation violation.
North Precinct and Traffic Division personnel will be conducting future enforcement missions as staffing allows.
The Portland Police Bureau is committed to working with our partners in government and the community to create safer streets and work towards reducing, and eventually eliminating, traffic fatalities as part of Vision Zero.
