The suspect in this case, 20-year-old Christopher Dwayne Washington, was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on numerous gun-related charges. Washington will be arraigned on Wednesday.

Washington is not a student at Madison High School and no information was learned to indicate Washington intended to enter the school.

On Tuesday December 4, 2018, at 12:49 p.m., Youth Services Division officers responded to Madison High School, located at 2735 Northeast Madison High School, on the report that a student reported seeing a man with a gun near the tennis courts in Glenhaven Park, just North of the school.

As a precaution, Madison High School went into a lockout as police responded to the area. Arriving officers did not find anyone near the tennis courts but saw a person matching the description waiting at a TriMet bus stop on 82nd Avenue near the school

As officers went to contact the subject, he ran towards Glenhaven Park but was quickly taken into custody without incident. During a search of the subject, officers located a handgun in his possession.

The investigation is continuing and there is no further risk to the community. The school will be resuming normal operations.

Updates on the arrest will be provided when they become available.
