The man who died in Saturday morning's crash on North Portland Road has been identified as 63-year-old Nick Christmas III of North Portland. Investigators believe that Christmas was driving southbound on North Portland Road and lost control of his car on the icy roadway. The vehicle driven by Christmas then hit a concrete barrier and rolled several times before stopping on its side in a ditch. Investigators believe speed and road conditions were contributing factors to the crash and there were no signs of impairment.

Nothing further.

At approximately 7:15 a.m. this morning, February 19, 2011, Portland Police were alerted to a vehicle that rolled down an embankment on North Portland Road south of North Marine Drive. Upon locating the vehicle, officers found a 63-year-old deceased male inside. The Major Crash Team was called to the scene to investigate this crash. It is unknown at this time what caused the crash or the death of the male inside the vehicle. It appeared to arriving emergency responders that the vehicle had been down the embankment for awhile before officers were alerted to the crash.

North Portland Road will remain closed from North Columbia Boulevard to North Marine Drive as officers continue to investigate the crash. Additional information will be released when it becomes available. The name of the deceased will be held until family can be located and notified.
