On Friday, April 12, 2019 at 06:23 A.M., East Precinct officers responded to a Suspicious Circumstances call in the 14800 Block of Southeast Stark Street. A caller said he saw a suspect the caller believed broke into the caller's vehicle. Officers learned that the suspect was driving away in a stolen Honda Civic. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle the suspect was driving, but the he failed to yield. Officers did not pursue. Numerous officers responded to assist. One officer was able to use spike strips to deflate at least two of the tires on the suspect's Civic. However, the suspect kept driving into an apartment building parking lot, where he and a female passenger ran to another stolen vehicle, a Nissan pickup truck. Officers challenged them, but they did not comply with the officer's lawful commands. The suspect drove the Nissan into two police vehicles and at least 3 privately owned parked vehicles, then drove away. There were no injuries.

A concerned community member notified police about a pickup truck driving recklessly near Southeast 119th Avenue and Southeast Ash Street. Officers responded and located the vehicle abandoned near there. Shortly thereafter the suspects were found walking nearby and arrested. Both were booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center.

One of the damaged police vehicles had to be towed from the scene. The stolen vehicles are being returned to their rightful owners.
