On Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 5:20p.m., East Precinct Officers were dispatched to the 12900 Block of Southeast Flavel Street. They located a single vehicle crashed into some trees. The driver and only occupant was outside of the vehicle and died at the scene. Medical crews also responded and confirmed that the driver was deceased.
PPB's Major Crash Team (MCT) responded to assume the investigation. MCT members determined that the vehicle, a 2012 Volkswagon Jetta, was traveling westbound on Southeast Flavel Street when it crossed over the dividing line and left the roadway. It struck multiple trees at what appears to be a high rate of speed. The driver was either ejected out of the car or fell out after the crash.
Investigators are identifying the driver as Nazariy V. Senchuk, 23, of Portland. His family has been notified.
This is the 49th call out for the MCT and the 42nd fatal crash for 2019.
