A woman has died at the hospital after being run over by a car in an apartment complex parking lot Friday in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood.

On Friday, January 24, 2020 at 6:25a.m., East Precinct officers were dispatched to a report of a vehicle running over a person in a driveway of an apartment building in the 2700 block of Southeast 92nd Avenue. When they arrived they found the injured woman conscious and talking. They learned that she was houseless and had laid down to sleep in front of the garage door of the apartment building. The driver of the car told officers that his car had been backed into the garage. When he came out to his car to go to work, he pulled forward out of the garage and felt a bump. He stopped but did not see what he had struck. He continued pull out and felt another bump. That's when he realized that he had run over someone. He immediately called 911 for help.

Medical responded and transported the woman to the hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. Later that morning, officers learned that the woman's condition had taken a turn for the worse and her injuries were life threatening. Officers requested assistance from the Traffic Division's Major Crash Team (MCT). A short time later, the officers learned the woman had died.

MCT is doing follow-up. At this time no charges or citations have been issued, therefore the driver's identity is not being released.

The woman who died is identified as Trecell R. Stinson, 47. Her family has been notified of her death.

This is the fourth MCT investigated incident this year, and the third fatality for 2020. This fatality, since it did not happen on a public right of way, will not be counted as a NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) reportable fatality.
