On May 3, 2020 at 6:26 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to Mt. Tabor Park on reports of a sexual assault.

It was reported an adult female was walking on the southeast side of Mt. Tabor Park when she was attacked by the suspect who was walking in the same area.

The woman was physically moved by the suspect to nearby vegetation off the road and was sexually assaulted. The woman yelled for help and nearby community members intervened to prevent the suspect from further assaulting her.

The community members who helped the victim ensured the suspect stayed at the location. When officers arrived, they were able to quickly assist the victim and take the suspect into custody.

19 year-old Malik Jabarr Hughes (Photo) was arrested and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Attempt Rape, Kidnapping, and two counts of Sex Abuse.
