Update: Arrest Information for June 20th Demonstrations

In coordination with the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, 5 adult subjects were arrested and booked.

The below individuals were booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center from the demonstration that began the evening of June 20, 2020 and continued into the morning of June 21, 2020:

*Razvon Alexandru Raouf, 34-year-old, Interfering with a Peace Officer, Reckless Endangering
*Claire Louise Campbell, 38-year-old, Interfering with a Peace Officer, Disorderly Conduct II
*Ian Hixson, 27-year-old, Disorderly Conduct II, Interfering with a Peace Officer, Resisting Arrest (2 Counts), Assaulting a Public Safety Officer
*James Michael Calkins, 35-year-old, Interfering with a Peace Officer, Disorderly Conduct II
*Jose Carrillo, 37-year-old, Interfering with a Peace Officer, Disorderly Conduct II

One main demonstration occurred in Portland during the evening hours of June 20 through the early morning hours of June 21, 2020.

At approximately 9:20 p.m., a couple hundred demonstrators began to gather on Southwest 3rd Avenue blocking traffic between Southwest Main and Southwest Madison Street. For a little over an hour, the demonstration remained peaceful.

Around 11 p.m., demonstrators began throwing projectiles at the Justice Center doors for nearly an hour. The projectiles included eggs and rocks. At 12:04 a.m., demonstrators knocked over the fence surrounding the Justice Center doors. This action caused deputies protecting the Justice Center to exit on to the portico. While deputies exited on to the portico, some demonstrators worked together to put the fence back up. While outside, deputies asked the demonstrators several times to not tamper with the fence and remain peaceful. At 12:21 a.m., demonstrators began throwing projectiles and pointing lasers at deputies.

As the crowd continued to throw projectiles at deputies, the sound truck gave a verbal warning to the demonstrators. Despite several warnings from the sound truck, demonstrators continued to throw projectiles such as glass bottles at deputies.

At 1:46 a.m., the sound truck gave admonishment warnings this event was an unlawful assembly and if the crowd did not disperse to the west, force may be used. Even though the crowd was given ample time to leave the vicinity, most did not. Officers and deputies began to disperse the crowd, moving demonstrators to the west. Officers and deputies continued to take glass bottle projectiles as they dispersed the group and crowd control munitions were used. Once the crowd was at Southwest 4th Avenue and Southwest Main Street, several mortars were thrown towards police and deputies.

By approximately 3:00 a.m., a majority of the demonstrators left the area.

Information on arrests is still being compiled and an updated release will be published when this information becomes available. No CS gas was used by Portland Police Bureau members during this event.

For 23 consecutive days this group has gathered near the Justice Center. Many have engaged in criminal acts of violence which has put life safety at risk, including the public, media, and law enforcement personnel. Additionally, there has been vandalism to property and disruptive behavior.
