On July 3, 2020 at 11:37 a.m., Portland Police Bureau officers responded to a report of an assault at the 9400 block of SE Mitchell.
Officers arrived and contacted the adult male victim, who suffered a non-life-threatening injury to the arm. The victim told officers that he had been assaulted with a baseball bat by two male adults. The victim gave various accounts as to what led to the assault.
No suspects were located at the time of the incident.
Investigators are looking into reports of whether bias played a role in the assault, as the victim is black and the description of the suspects are white. It was noted by a witness that a derogatory term was used by a suspect.
The Portland Police Bureau's Detective Division is continuing the investigation. Anyone with information should contact Bias Crimes Detective Jeff Sharp at firstname.lastname@example.org or 503-823-9773.
The Bureau investigates all reports of bias-motivated crimes and encourages any member of our community who is the victim of such a crime to contact law enforcement.
