On July 8, 2020, at 1:45 p.m., Officers from the Special Victim's Unit were following up on a domestic violence investigation from June 3, 2020. The U.S. Marshals arrested a suspect from this investigation and the PPB Special Victim's Unit served a warrant at the 10700 block of Northeast Weidler Street.
The suspect, 21 year-old Jevauhn Hampton, was taken into custody and charged with DV Kidnap I, DV Assault II, DV Burglary I, and 15 other lesser charges with multiple victims. A firearm was recovered during the warrant service. Hampton was later booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center.

The Portland Police Bureau's Special Victim's Unit (SVU) provides officers and detectives with specialized training in the dynamics of domestic violence. This unit also operates jointly with Multnomah County's Domestic Violence Enhanced Response Team (DVERT) on "high-lethality" cases of domestic violence (those cases with warning signs associated with the most severe and life-threatening cases of domestic violence).
