The victim in this case has been identified as 52 year old Jimmy Lee Melton, known as "Jamie" to his friends. Mr. Melton died of a gunshot wound. A DMV photo is attached.

Portland Police Bureau detectives confirm that there was one person killed and another person was injured in a shooting near Northeast 111th and Northeast Sandy Boulevard, reported at about 7:46 p.m., Thursday, October 1, 2020.
Cause and manner of death will be determined by the Oregon State Medical Examiner at a later time and date. The person who was injured is expected to recover. Additional information will be released at the direction of the investigators.

This incident occurred near the scene of a separate shooting, which was reported at about 5:31 a.m. the same day. A person was found deceased at the scene of that shooting as well. Detectives have not released information connecting these incidents.

On October 1, 2020, at approximately 7:46 p.m., North Precinct officers responded to the 4700 block of Northeast 111th Avenue on reports of a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and located two individuals with gunshot wounds. Their medical status is not available at this time.
Officers have secured the crime scene and members of the Portland Police Bureau Detective Division are responding to assist in the investigation. Northeast 111th Avenue is closed from Northeast Sandy Boulevard to Northeast Wygant Street.
The PIO is not responding to the scene.
If anyone has information about the shooting and has not been contacted by investigators, they are asked to call the non-emergency line at 503-823-3333.
An update will be provided if appropriate for the investigation.
