UPDATE: North Denver Avenue Reopens, Fatal Hit and Run Still Under Investigation

North Denver Avenue is reopened to traffic after the on-scene investigation into this morning's fatal hit-and-run crash concluded. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

This is the 3rd fatal crash of 2021 in the City of Portland.

A pedestrian is deceased after what is believed to be a hit-and-run crash in the Kenton neighborhood.

On Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 6:38a.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to a welfare check on a person seen laying in the road on North Denver Avenue at the North Columbia Boulevard overpass. When officers arrived they located an unconscious person. Paramedics evaluated the person, but determined that the person was deceased.

Preliminary information indicates the person was struck by a vehicle, which left the scene before police were called. No suspect information is available.

Investigators from the Portland Police Traffic Division Major Crash Team responded to investigate. North Denver Avenue is closed between North Argyle Street and North Schmeer Road.

Media staging is at North Denver Avenue and North Argyle Street. A Traffic Division representative will be available for interviews.
