A woman who was likely an unintended victim is recovering from being shot in the foot after gunfire erupted in the Portsmouth Neighborhood.
On Sunday, January 10, 2021 at 4:42a.m., North Precinct officers responded to a report that someone was shooting a gun in the 9300 block of North Wall Avenue. Officers arrived and discovered that a 65-year-old woman had a gunshot wound in the foot. She was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Initial investigation indicated that two male residents of the home saw two suspects attempting to steal their car outside. They went outside to confront the suspects and one of the suspects fired a gun at the residents. They were not hit, but one of the bullets penetrated the home and struck the victim inside.
No suspect information is being released at this time. The investigation is continuing. If anyone has information about this shooting, please e-mail email@example.com and reference case number 21-8543.
The Police Bureau continues to work with partners to reduce the number of shootings. Solving crimes related to shootings takes help from the community, including witnesses and bystanders to come forward and provide information to police. This can be very difficult for people to do, but is often necessary to start the process of holding shooters accountable, and interrupt the cycle of violence in our neighborhood streets.
