29-year-old Roy Lawrence Bennett has been charged with Murder in the Second Degree.

During the afternoon of March 19, 2021, Portland Police officers arrested 29-year-old Roy Lawrence Bennett in northeast Portland, for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Bennett was booked into the Multnomah County jail.

Homicide detectives followed investigative leads that led to the additional charges of Fail to Perform the Duties of a Driver (hit and run), Assault I and Attempted Murder.

A pedestrian has serious, life threatening injuries after he was hit by a car in the Cathedral Park Neighborhood near the St Johns Bridge. The suspect driver left the scene.

On Friday, March 19, 2021 at 3:33p.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to an injury crash at North Crawford Street under the North Philadelphia Avenue bridge ramp viaduct. Officers located a person with serious injuries. Portland Fire and Rescue and American Medical Response paramedics responded and provided treatment. The person was transported to a hospital by ambulance.

The driver of the vehicle involved left the scene. No suspect information is being released at this time.
