UPDATE: Arrest Made in May 5 Cully Neighborhood Shooting

The continuing ECST investigation into this incident resulted in detectives from the unit positively identifying Anwar A. Adams, 40, as the suspect in this shooting. On Monday, May 17, 2021, Adams was safely taken into custody near the 500 Block of Northeast Holladay Street. Several search warrants were served. A firearm (photo) and soft body armor were recovered during these warrants.

Adams was booked on a United States Marshals hold and is being held pending the additional charges of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon ? Firearm, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Felon in Possession of Body Armor.

On May 5, 2021, at about 5:28 a.m., Portland Police officers from North Precinct responded to the report of a shooting in the Cully neighborhood, near Northeast 82nd Avenue and Northeast Alberta Street. Officers arrived to find a person who appeared to have been shot.

Officers made sure the scene was safe so medical personnel could assist the victim, who was transported by ambulance to the hospital.

Officers conducted an area check for any suspect and for evidence. It appears the suspect fled prior to police arrival.

Portland Police Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) detectives and officers responded to investigate.
