UPDATE: Stabbing Victim Identified, Suspect Charged with Murder (Photo)

The victim of the homicide from March 31 is identified as Jay Ahn, 40 (photo). His family has been notified of his death.

On Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 9:41p.m., Central Precinct officers responded to a report of a robbery at the west end of the Morrison Bridge. Officers arrived and located a suspect nearby, who was detained. Officers learned that the suspect threatened the victim with a homemade whip (photo) before taking his property.

Robbery detectives responded to investigate. During the investigation, officers and detectives connected the suspect to the March 31 homicide. Homicide detectives also responded.

William E. Aho, 37, was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Murder in the Second Degree and Robbery in the Second Degree.

Detectives believe that there are still witnesses that have not shared information with them about the homicide, and their investigation is not finished. On March 31, 2021, at about 12:01 a.m., Portland Police from Central Precinct responded to the report of an assault near Southwest 1st Avenue and Southwest Ankeny Street. Upon arrival officers found a person who appeared to have been wounded in a stabbing. Officers provided first aid until medical personnel arrived and transported the victim to a hospital.

The victim did not survive. There is no suspect information at this time.

Portland Police homicide detectives responded and began an investigation.
