Update: Suspicious Death is Now a Homicide

On Friday, June 25th, 2021, Portland Police Bureau Homicide Detectives, the Multnomah County District Attorney?s Office, and the Multnomah County Medical Examiner?s Office responded to the scene of a suspicious death near the intersections of Southeast Clatsop Street and Southeast 147th Avenue.

An Oregon State Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and determined the victim died from a gunshot wound and ruled the death a homicide. The victim has been identified as 47 year old Olance A. Upton of Portland.

Upton?s family has been notified and provided the attached photos for media release.

On Friday, June 25, 2021, at about 12:29, East Precinct officers responded to a request by Portland Fire & Rescue on a death investigation call in the area of Southeast 147th and Clatsop Street. When officers arrived, they determined that the death was suspicious in nature. Portland Police Detectives responded to the scene and began an investigation.

Officers and detectives have closed off the area for the investigation, but no streets are impacted. No additional details can be released at this time due to the need to protect the integrity of the investigation.
