###ORIGINAL MESSAGE BELOW###

An armed robbery suspect believed to be in a few blocks of the Montavilla Neighborhood has police surrounding the area and officers are conducting a careful search.

On Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 7:22a.m., East Precinct Officers responded to a call of suspicious circumstances in a parking lot in the 9200 block of Southeast Stark Street. As they were enroute they learned that a victim of an armed carjacking was the caller and located their vehicle that had been taken at gunpoint earlier in the morning.

Officers located the vehicle and saw that it was leaving the parking lot. The officers tried to stop the vehicle but the driver started to drive away. Officers used their vehicles to surround and stop the car. The driver, who is believed to be the robbery suspect, got out and ran into the neighborhood. Officers set up a perimeter around the area. Because he was believed to be armed, the Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT), the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), K9 units, and the Air Support Unit responded. SERT is doing a slow, methodical block search looking for the suspect.

The perimeter is Southeast 92nd Avenue to I-205, Southeast Washington Street to Southeast Taylor Street. All traffic, including vehicle, bicycle, pedestrian, is blocked on Southeast 92nd Avenue between Southeast Washington Street and Southeast Taylor Street. Southeast Washington Street is also blocked at Southeast 91st Avenue.

Residents in this neighborhood are asked to shelter in place, lock their doors and windows, and call 911 if they see anything suspicious in their yards. The Community Emergency Notification System (CENS) was activated to alert residents of the situation.
