The Portland Police Bureau is holding a community open house at its new Community Policing Training Center on Monday, October 29, 2012. Chief Mike Reese, Mayor Sam Adams and the City Commissioners will formally dedicate the Training Center, located at 14902 NE Airport Way, at a brief ceremony at 2 p.m. The open house will continue until 5 p.m., and feature the Bureau's specialty units and refreshments.

In March 2012, the City Council voted to fund a police and public safety training facility. The new training center complex is the first of its kind for the Police Bureau and City of Portland. The Training Division has moved into the building and is conducting a portion of the Bureau's tactical and classroom training there. However, next year the Bureau will begin construction on the new facility, which will eventually house all the training disciplines in one central venue, generating a significant cost savings and efficiencies. It will also improve the Bureau's ability to provide scenario-based training using all the various disciplines in one location.

Media is invited to attend.
