A suspect is in custody after attempting to elude police and crashing into another car causing injuries.
On Friday, September 24, 2021 at 11:26p.m., a North Precinct officer learned that a person in a vehicle was in possession of a gun in a hotel parking lot in the 3800 block of Northeast 82nd Avenue. The officer followed the suspect's car as he drove out of the parking lot and southbound on Northeast 82nd Avenue. When the officer initiated a traffic stop, the suspect failed to pull over and drove off at a high rate of speed. The officer did not pursue, pulling over and turning off her overhead police lights. However, the suspect continued recklessly driving until he crashed his vehicle into another vehicle at Northeast Pacific Street.
Officers provided aid to the two adults in the victim vehicle. They were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect ran away and officers pursued him on foot, arresting him nearby. They found suspected narcotics in his possession, and in the crashed vehicle they found a loaded revolver. They were seized as evidence (photo).
Ronald T. Stephens, Jr, 40, of Portland, was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Attempting to Elude by Vehicle, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Loaded Firearm (city code), Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver (Property Damage), and an arrest warrant.
