A victim was injured but was fortunate to avoid serious injury when he was struck by a bullet that pierced his bedroom while he was sleeping.
On Friday, October 30, 2021 at 1:45a.m., East Precinct officers responded to a report of someone shot in the 13000 block of Southeast Powell Boulevard. When they arrived, they found a victim with a minor wound to the shoulder. The victim, an adult male, had been sleeping in his bed when bullets pierced his wall, went through his headboard (photo), and grazed his skin. It was clear that if the bullet had been a slightly different trajectory, he could have suffered a life-threatening injury. The bullet slug was recovered from the victim's pillow. The victim was evaluated by paramedics but ultimately not transported to a hospital.
At least 5 bullets hit the residence, and another damaged a parked vehicle out front (photo).
Officers investigated and believe that the bullets were fired from a vehicle or vehicles on Southeast Powell Boulevard and Southeast 132nd Avenue. They traveled a full block before striking the home. Investigators do not believe that the victim was an intended target. No suspects have been located yet.
