On October 3, 2021, North Precinct officers responded to a stranger-on-stranger attempted sexual assault in the Piedmont Neighborhood where the suspect entered the victim's backyard. The suspect was not immediately located, but he was identified. A North Precinct officer located and arrested the suspect, 55-year-old Leroy Rubben Morales, Sr., on October 4, 2021.
Portland Police Sex Assault Unit detectives investigated the case and booked Morales into the Multnomah County Detention Center. He was later indicted by a Grand Jury on charges of Attempt Sodomy in the First Degree, Attempt Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, Burglary in the First Degree, Harassment, and Private Indecency.
As detectives continued investigating, they learned that Morales may have been a suspect is other crimes, possibly unreported to police. While PPB does not normally release mugshots, we are distributing three booking photographs in an attempt to assist potential victims of Morales to identify him and contact detectives.
If anyone has information about any cases related to Morales, please contact Detective Nathan Wollstein at Nathan.Wollstein@portlandoregon.gov
