Investigators have identified the pedestrian killed in this crash as Laurie D. Lawyer, 56, of Portland. Her family has been notified of her death.
The critically injured male remains at the hospital. The preliminary investigation indicates the two pedestrians were out in the roadway recovering an item that had fallen out of the back of their pickup truck, a 2002 Ford F-150. Limited visibility (lack of lighting and rainy weather conditions) are believed to be factors in the crash.
The vehicle involved was a 1996 Saturn 4-door. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. The driver, an adult male, has not been charged with a crime or issued a citation as of now. The investigation is not complete. This is the 55th traffic fatality in Portland this year. Of those, 22 cases involve pedestrians. That ties 2020 and 2017 for pedestrian-involved fatal crashes. If we get one more, it would be a record since 1972, nearly 50 years ago, when there were we had 30 pedestrian fatalities in the City of Portland.

One pedestrian is deceased and another is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after they were struck by at least one vehicle on North Going Street in the Overlook Neighborhood.
On Friday, November 5, 2021 at 4:26a.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to North Going Street and North Interstate Avenue on a report of two people injured. When they arrived they found one adult female deceased and an adult male critically injured. The male was transported to a hospital by ambulance. The driver of an involved vehicle remained at the scene.
The Portland Police Major Crash Team is responding to assume the investigation. During the investigation, North Going Street is closed between North Greeley Avenue and North Interstate Avenue.
