UPDATE: Pedestrian Killed on Northwest 23rd Avenue Identified

The pedestrian struck and killed on Northwest 23rd Avenue is identified as Jose Romero-Ramirez, 52, of Milwaukie, Oregon. His family has been notified of his death.



Just after 1p.m. on November 15, 2021, Central Precinct Officers responded to a crash in which a pedestrian was struck by a truck in the 300 Block of Northwest 23rd Avenue. Officers found AMR doing CPR on a person down on the sidewalk, and immediately began assisting. Additional officers arrived, and recognizing the gravity of the situation, began contacting witnesses and establishing a crime scene. Officers requested activation of the Major Crash Team.

Officers learned the driver and pedestrian were co-workers. The pedestrian was assisting the driver in parking their work truck. While maneuvering, the driver pinned his co-worker between the rear of the truck and a large tree. A passing AMR ambulance witnessed the incident and immediately began rendering assistance. Soon after AMR medics and Central Precinct officers began providing emergency medical assistance, the pedestrian died of their injuries.

The driver of the truck remained on scene and assisted with the investigation.
