On Sunday January 27, 2013, at 12:03 a.m., Portland Police officers assigned to East Precinct attempted to stop a 1995 Toyota Tercel at Southeast 111th Avenue and Harold Street for a traffic infraction.

The driver sped away from police southbound on 111th Avenue and officers engaged in a pursuit of the vehicle. At 111th and Foster Road, officers used a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver to spin the suspect vehicle out but the suspect driver regained control of the vehicle then sped away eastbound on Foster Road.

The suspect continued speeding away from police officers and at 162nd Avenue turned southbound towards Happy Valley. The suspect turned off all of the vehicles lights as he continued southbound on 162nd Avenue. At Southeast Vrandenburg Road, the suspect made a right turn but lost control of the vehicle and crashed onto it's side.

Officers arrived and immediately called for medical personnel to respond to treat the driver and passenger.

The driver, 26-year-old Michael Duane Zook, was transported to a Portland hospital for minor injuries then transported to jail on multiple charges. The 25-year-old female passenger was treated for minor injuries at the scene then released.

Zook was charged with Attempt to Elude by Vehicle, Possession of Methamphetamine, Reckless Driving, and Reckless Endangerment. Additionally Zook had two outstanding warrants for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender and Burglary.

Zook was booked into the Multnomah County Jail and will be arraigned on Monday.
