UPDATE: Homicide Suspect Arrested and Indicted (Photo)

On January 4, 2022, Portland Police Bureau SERT assisted Homicide Detectives in arresting Kimmie D. Edwards, 51. Edwards was a person of interest in the homicide of Joshua Byrd. Edwards has now been indicted for the following crimes:

• Murder in the Second Degree;
• Unlawful Use of a Firearm; and
• Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

The man found deceased in the Eliot Neighborhood is identified as Joshua Aaron Byrd, 38, of Portland. The Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office determined his cause and manner of death to be homicide by gunshot wound. Joshua Aaron Byrd’s family has been notified. Attached is Aaron Byrd’s most recent DMV photograph.

A shooting call has left a man deceased in the Eliot Neighborhood.

On Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 3:29p.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to a report of a shooting near North Flint Avenue and North Hancock Street. Officers from Central Precinct also responded as North Precinct was working on other priority incidents and did not have enough available officers. When they arrived they found an adult male victim deceased.

Officers checked the area for a suspect or suspects but none have been located so far. Officers established a crime scene and have closed North Flint Avenue between North Broadway and North Tillamook Street.
