The City of Portland has reached a civil settlement agreement with William Monroe in connection with a police shooting in June 2011. The settlement is pending City Council approval and is in the amount of $2.3 million.

This civil settlement is a result of a lawsuit filed against the City of Portland in connection with the shooting of William Monroe on June 30, 2011 by Officer Dane Reister.

On November 18, 2011, Officer Reister was indicted by a Multnomah County Grand Jury for Assault in the Third Degree and Assault in the Fourth Degree. The case remains open with the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office.

Officer Reister remains on paid administrative leave.

The Police Bureau continues to hope for Mr. Monroe's full recovery and the Bureau recognizes that this incident has been extremely difficult for everyone involved.
