The man killed in this morning's single vehicle traffic crash was identified as 25-year-old Cory Dodge.

Based on witness statements and the crash investigation, investigators believe that Dodge was driving southbound on 60th Avenue at speeds of approximately 70 miles per hour when he lost control after crossing over Burnside Street. The vehicle hit an embankment and rolled, then hit a tree which caused massive damage to the vehicle. Dodge was not wearing a seat belt and investigators believe he died instantly.

Based on a preliminary investigation, speed is a factor in the crash. The Oregon State Medical Examiner will have toxicology tests performed which will take several weeks to complete.

This morning, Friday July 5, 2013, at 3:53 a.m., East Precinct officers responded to the report of a rollover crash at Southeast 60th Avenue and Ash Street.

Officers and Portland Fire & Rescue personnel arrived and determined that the driver was deceased.

The Traffic Division's Major Crash Team is responding to conduct an investigation into the crash.

Southeast 60th Avenue is closed from Southeast Stark to East Burnside Street.

No further information is available at this time.
