UPDATE: Stabbing in Old Town - Suspect in Custody

July 08, 2013 22:55

26-year-old Dean Anthony Johnson was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on a charge of Attempted Murder in connection with this afternoon's stabbing.

Detectives learned that Johnson had been in a previous relationship with the victim, a 27-year-old female, and that the two had a child together. Johnson came by the victim's residence to talk to her and the two were in a conversation in front of The Yards, located at 945 Northwest Naito Parkway.

The conversation turned into a disagreement so Johnson pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times then ran away. Several residents assisted the victim and others chased after Johnson and held him for police.

The victim remains in a Portland hospital in serious condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Johnson will be arraigned on Tuesday in Multnomah County Court.

This afternoon, Monday July 8, 2013, at 3:51 p.m., Central Precinct officers responded to Union Station, located at 800 Northwest 6th Avenue, on the report of a stabbing in the area.

As officers were en route, additional information was received that the suspect was being held down by three men under the Broadway Bridge on Northwest Naito Parkway. Officers arrived and took custody of the male suspect without incident.

The female victim and crime scene was located outside 945 Northwest Naito Parkway. The victim was transported to a Portland hospital by medical personnel with multiple stab wounds. Her condition is not known at this time.

One land of southbound Naito Parkway is closed due to police activity.

Assault Detectives and Criminalists from the Forensic Evidence Division will be responding to conduct an investigation.

No additional details are available at this time.
