The motorcycle rider killed in Thursday morning's crash has been identified as 34-year-old Damian Gerold Wyatt of Milwaukie, Oregon.

The Traffic Division's Major Crash Team has concluded a preliminary investigation into this morning's fatal motorcycle crash on Southeast Milwaukie Avenue.

Investigators believe the motorcycle rider, a 34-year-old man, was riding a 2007 Kawasaki ZX6 southbound on Milwaukie at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a partial right turn angle and went off the roadway, over the East curb and into the northwest corner of an apartment building located at 5248 Southeast Milwaukie Avenue. The motorcycle and rider traveled approximately 100 feet off of the roadway before striking the building.

The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and the motorcycle came to rest after striking a parked vehicle.

The driver's name will be released after his family is notified. It is not known if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this crash. The Oregon State Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy today and send blood samples for a toxicology test.

This is the 23rd traffic fatality in Portland in 2013 and the 4th in the last seven days.

This morning, Thursday July 11, 2013, at 2:42 a.m., Central Precinct officers responded to Southeast Milwaukie Avenue, just south of McLoughlin Boulevard, on the report of a motorcycle crash.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and determined that the motorcycle rider was deceased at the scene.

Preliminary information indicates this is a single vehicle crash.

The Traffic Division's Major Crash Team is responding to conduct an investigation.

Milwaukie Avenue will be shut down to traffic as investigators process the crash scene.

No additional details are available at this time and updates will be provided no earlier than 10:00 a.m.
