UPDATE: Man Killed in East Columbia Neighborhood Crash Identified

The man who died in the crash is identified as Raymond M. McWilliams, 59. His family has been notified of his death.

The investigation is continuing and no additional information is being released at this time.



A man in a motorized wheelchair is deceased after being run over by a semi in the East Columbia neighborhood.

On Friday, March 18, 2022 at 8:51p.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to a report of a crash involving a pedestrian in near Northeast Vancouver Way and Northeast Gertz Road. When officers arrived, they discovered an adult male deceased. Preliminary information indicates that the man was operating the wheelchair on the sidewalk when a wheel slipped off the curb, causing him to fall under the tires of a passing tractor-trailer. The driver of the tractor-trailer did not remain at the scene. It is unknown if the driver was aware of what happened.

The Portland Police Major Crash Team responded to the scene to investigate. During the investigation, Northeast Vancouver Way was closed between North Vancouver Avenue and Northeast Gertz Road.
