Two arrests were made and two guns were seized after occupants of a suspect vehicle attempted to elude police officers.

On Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 4:42p.m., two East Precinct officers working a partner car initiated a traffic stop near Southeast Powell Boulevard and Southeast 115th Avenue. The driver eluded. The Air Support Unit (ASU) followed the vehicle while additional officers responded to the area to assist. ASU observed reckless driving behavior, including high speeds, passing in oncoming lanes, and disregarding traffic control devices. At least one other driver's car was nearly struck by the suspect vehicle. Officers from East Precinct, Central Precinct, the Focused Intervention Team, and the K9 unit responded to assist.

The vehicle stopped in the 2800 block of Southeast Colt Street and three suspects fled on foot. Numerous officers surrounded the area. A search using a K9 Unit team helped locate 2 suspects, who were detained.

Two firearms were also found and seized as evidence. No photograph of the firearms is available at this time.

Yonis Jama, 18, Portland, was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Unlawful Possession of Firearms, Attempt to Elude Police by Vehicle, and Reckless Driving.

Sa'Maurion N. Harris, 18, was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Unlawful Possession of Firearms.

A third suspect was not immediately located. The investigation is continuing by the Enhanced Community Safety Team and the Focused Intervention Team.
